JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDER
This blog is dedicated to two of my best buddies... who have a chilled and never say die attitude towards life - Pranav sarnaik and santosh shukla.
Jo Jeeta wohi sikandar is a 1992 movie. Its an all time favorite movie of many Indians. It definitely entertains U, makes u laugh ,cry and rarely will u find a person who watches Hindi movies and hasn't watched this epic.
As a Kid I used to often think and once i even questioned my brother that what was so great done by aamir,s character "sanjay lal sharma" in this movie .He was initially shown as a looser who lost every time he played.There was even a singing competition somewhere in the middle of the movie where aamir loses to deepak tijori. So whats so great in losing throughout the movie and winning by a small margin only once in the end. As a kid when i watched the movie for the first time i felt a lot of emptiness in the end . I wanted a more harsh punishment to deepak tijori for all what he did in the movie .Something which normally happens in a typical Bollywood movie. The villain gets bashed ,imprisoned or even dies. But what happened in the end was deepak being just second in the race. He still had his girlfriend .He was still rich and powerful than the model college students. Given his abilities and winning streak he may defeat ratan or sanjay next year . and again even when he lost, he gave a tough fight and lost at the last moment ,so he didn,t lose his respect as an ace cyclist .These were the reasons why I felt a sense of emptiness when such a brilliant movie ended suddenly with aamir lifting the trophy in the end with a song played in the background.
Oh well I was a Kid then and i never knew that I would realize the true meaning of this movie only after going through the worst phase of my life.
I was a careless guy (When i was in patni in 2007-2008). There were times were I had performed exceptionally well and times where I just didn't do well. and I didn't really care .
I knew my potential very well . I knew if I give my best I can be the best. Even at times when i gave my best ,I didn't really care to take the credit of my work. My colleagues many times took this to their advantage and my boss never felt of me as a great performer. There was a time when I realized about this corporategiri against me but to my vain I didn't care. My colleagues who took my credit were praised . Some people from my training batch were given awards but still I never felt to change . Sometimes I used to feel that I should change and should learn some corporategiri myself. but later used to think Let them do what they want I would give CAT and my destiny would be a top B school of India.
These lines " Niklenge maidan main jis din hum jhoomke dharti bolegi ye gagan choomke, woh sikander hi doston kehlata hain, haari bazi ko jeetna jisse aata hain" meant "I m an underdog lazy ass now but the day I pull up my socks I will make this world shake" in a funny tone.
These lines reflected aamir khan's attitude in the initial part of the movie and to some extent the same lines reflected my attitude then. These lines have a bit of optimism and fun. Though I wouldn't say that i was like aamir , I didn't run around girls or did what aamir did in the first half. but yeah I had the attitude of being careless, optimistic and lively. (if my then boss reads this she will never accept I was lively I used to be so reserved with them)
Somethings followed in my professional life later of which I don,t wish to divulge any detail ,I will write a separate 300 pages book on that phase of my life once i get success and am sure that book will be a hell interesting and motivating.
But to continue further, I was asked to resign from my job in April 2009 because somethings happened in my professional life due to **corporategiri , added with recession and no projects in Patni, . There were no jobs in market . I really didn't know what my future was . I had an IIFT call then and i had given the interview and was waiting for its result. I already had got few hints from my mangers that I will be sacked and its then I Thought to myself " I have 4 possible futures
1) I make it to IIFT and I don,t get sacked -- I will be partying
2) I make it to IIFT and get sacked -- I will be partying harder
3)I didn,t make it to IIFT and don,t get sacked -- I will be happy and will definitely prove my worth in patni before making it to IIMs next year ( i was already in the process was getting good responses from my bosses[more details in my future book ])
4) NO IIFT and sacked from patni--- I would have been doomed , no future , insecurity, depression I just couldn't think what i will do if this happens
and U guessed it right the worst happened , NO IIFT and resigned from job with no jobs in market. I was a depressed jobless kid who used to get angry of his past , When u know U kicked out just because u didn't care of the corporategiri that happened against U. The recession was so severe that i had to work in a BPO to maintain my self respect.In the month of august I took the decision to join a library and study for CAT full time with only IIMs in my eyes. My past was a nightmare , My present then was insecure and complicated and my future would have only got better.
My past and all the corporate giri that I faced would only instill more anger in me and make me more focused . its then I accidentally watched the last 30 mins of the movie Jo jeeta wohi sikander to make me realize that the movie is the most inspirational movie ever .
As said aamir in the beginning was careless. It was his attitude which was making him a loser and he didn't care if he lost. Later aamir goes through a phase in his life which changes him for good . He ends up being the enemy of deepak tijori who is the best cyclist and a winner in life. His dad kicks him out for spending his hard earned money on the girl who back stabbed him. His brother ratan is his support for all his problems and whom he loves a lot. The worst happens when his enemy deepak attacks ratan and ratan gets badly injured . His family is shattered . All ratan wants now is to get well soon so that he can defeat that bad guy deepak . Deepak tijori might be the winner but with what all he has done to aamir and after the attack on Ratan, Ratan wants to badly defeat deepak tijori .Ratan who himself an ace cyclist knows if he puts his best he can defeat the best and hopes to get well and start practicing for the race. But aamir knows that ratan won,t get well that soon and sadly would have to skip the race.
This phase in his life makes him realize that he has to change ,he can,t be careless like he was initially. He knows deepak is an ace cyclist whereas he has never tried racing. He is not even an underdog because an underdog is someone who can do well, but this guy had never done anything. Still the circumstances and the anger in him made take the decision of competing against deepak tijori.
He can,t just sit and watch deepak tijori win.and watch his family and his loved brother cry.
still no matter how optimistic he is he knows very well that defeating deepak tijori would be almost impossible
One day by some sources he comes to know a harsh truth. That the reason ratan was in hospital is deepak tijori. The reason for all the miserableness that he and his family went thru was deepak tijori . He immediately tries to go out to kill deepak tijori. Well, Now thats what i wanted when i was a kid . A typical Bollywood ending where the villain is killed for all his wrongdoings. But ratan stops him... Aamir is burning with anger , He wants to go and kill deepak. He seems uncontrollable .Ratan stops him , makes him sit on the sofa and tells him "if U want to do something for me , then just defeat him in the cycle race".
Just then kids from rajput college and supporters of deepak tijori who are confident that since ratan is injured, now no one will defeat deepak start shouting the slogans
" Veer bahadur ladke kaun Rajput Rajput, sabse aage ladke kaun Rajput Rajput"
As the intensity of the slogan increases the camera focuses on aamirs face . He turns his anger into his determination.
Those expression on aamirs face says " bring it on , I am gonna f** u deepak tijori, U can,t win this time ". While in the background deepak tijori supporters shout " Veer bahadur ladke kaun Rajput Rajput, sabse aage ladke kaun Rajput Rajput" his determination on his face keeps increasing.The pain and anger converts into strong determination which is seen in aamirs face in that scene.
I have been searching for that scene in youtube . but :(
and yeah aamir then trains himself . he is shown doing push ups, pull ups, cycling along cars.
In short now that he,s got the determination ,he now is putting the effort .
and then the finale aamir wins, albeit in the last moment but he did the impossible.
In the final scene when the movie ends aamir raises the trophy and a song follows in the background . Can u guess the song.. ..........

My IIM I interview
My IIM I interview

2 panelist .. 1 lady prof and 1 old and healthy male prof( i will call the male prof as prof )
This was one of my final interviews ( i had been giving interviews since 2.5 months.so was actually bored .. I was unprepared for this interview.. I didn,t read news papers for last 10 days.. didn,t study much .. had done lots of travelling for IITs .. anyways
process started with an essay
"is indian movie industry getting globalised "
the panelist were reading my essay when i entered the room
me :- good afternoon sir, good afternoon maam.
lady :- good afternoon , have a seat
me :- thank U
prof :- so u r an electronics engineer having work ex as a software engineer in patni. okay in ur essay U have written "NRI abroad ".. Do u think its right
me :- no sir it has a grammatical error
prof :- what kind of error say to me in the language of data structure
me :- sir it wud be redundancy
prof:- explain the error
me:- ( it shud be only NRI or abroad ,I explained properly)
prof :- ( reading my essay) hmm kollywood and tollywood movie industry in south .. what r these
me:- kannada movie industry is kollywood and telugu movie industry is tollywood
lady:- tell me the 4 states and thier languages in south india
me :- (said )
lady:- what is this u have written e-globally
me:- Maam I have written globally..
lady :- okay
lady :- complete this sentence if u agree with it
" democracy is not good for india .................. )
me :- democracy is not good for india because in india majority of voters are illiterate who can be manipulated easily by politicians . The vote bank politics played in our country divides the country and its people..
lady :- anything else u dislike about democratic system in india and what kind of goverment u want
me :- maam in coalition government, it is not possible to make good decision quicky which is in the interest of the country since most parties r looking for their own interest ... like we saw what happened while passing the nuclear bill
I feel a benevolent dictatorship wud be good for india.
lady :- what u mean by benevolent dictator.
me:- a dicatator who takes quick decison in the interest of the country, who is not corrupt ,peace loving, and thinks of the growth of the country and welfare of the people .
lady :- can u think of any past ruler in india who was a benevolent dictator
me :-(thinks) I think akbar was.. he respected all religions and always thought of welfare of his people.
lady :- Name any other form of government , apart from democary and dictatorship
me :- communisim
lady:- which countries in the world follow communism
me :- China , and i have read somewhere about chile being communist
lady :- okay :) what u mean by autoXXXX (i can,t recollect)
me:- i can guess its a form of goverment similar to dictatorship
lady :- what is autocarcysyncracy ( i can,t recollect :D)
me :- i don,t know

prof:- what is this subject u had in ur final year.. mechattronics
me :- sir its a subject which has principles of both mechanical and elctronics engineering
prof :- so can u answer questions from this subject
me:- sir I can try but am not sure I will be able to recollect .
prof :- what was there in it
me:- about PLCs, transducers
prof :-so what was ur fav subject in engineering apart from data structures (hahahaha he asumed I am good at data structures since i worked on it )
me :-sir I guess microprocessor
prof :- what is the diffrence between micro processor and micro controller
me :- explained correctly
prof : where are micro controllers being used
me :- in any appliance which does a fixed job .. like a TV , a microwave oven etc where the
processor can be programmed to do a fixed job we use micro controller
prof :- what is used in a laptop
me :- sir micro processors because laptops has to to multitasking and we need lots of
external memory for that
lady:- what is used to implement Fuzzy logic
me:- maam I don,t know fuzzy logic
lady:- the one that is used in washing machines
me:- if its used in washing machine.. then it must be micro controller( i was very good in
explaining why)
lady :- hmm so u have mentioned that u are creative ( we had a small psychometric test
before the essay in which we had to mention all this)
(she kept few plastic pins in front of me,paper clips)
okay tell me 10 uses of this apart from its normal use.
me :
1) it can be used to clean ur ears 2) scratch ur head 3) to remove something it gets struck
in a narrow hole 4) to play by kids since they were colorful 5) as paperweight
6)since its flexible u can use it as friendship bands if u tie it on ur fingers
( i was thinking when she stopped me)
lady :- so u have mentioned the reason for leaving patni as ur ambition to study for CAT.. whereas U have written in the column below that u have a gap becoz u were asked to resign from patni and took it as opprtunity balh balh
prof :- u shud have mentioned the same reason tht u were asked to resign
me:- sir I cud have easily got another job given my experience. but i found it unethical to work for few months in a firm and leave it for MBA.. so i decided to take a gap.. so the main reason was my ambition
prof :- but the reason for leaving shud n,t be that...
me :- yes sir but since ,there was a separate column ,i wrote it that way..
lady :- so u were honest in ur answer here
Lady:- so what r ur extra curricular activities.. what else u do apart from studying for CAt and working for patni
lemme see oh so u have done cartooning .. draw my cartoon
prof :- (interrupts the lady ) he has organized the competition .. i guess he himself isn,t
a cartoonist
me :- yes sir.
lady:- so u like football, cricket and and and ( she searching for something in
extracurricular to ask me)
prof :- so u like rock music.. whats the difference between heavy metal and hard rock
me :- Sir i guess hard rock is a vast genre of music and heavy metal is a subset of hard
rock
prof :- u sure
me :- ( not so confidently) yes
prof :- U just destroyed my artistic talent( he said something like that and laughed)

me:- sir I cud have easily got another job given my experience. but i found it unethical to work for few months in a firm and leave it for MBA.. so i decided to take a gap.. so the main reason was my ambition

My IIM C interview
Result - rejected
3 people in panel , lady professor, old professor, old alumnus.
after having a good GD the same panel who judged the GD started the interview
(the old prof went out for some reason he joined the interview after 2 mins)
me :- good morning sir, good morning maam
lady : good moring take a seat
me- thank U maam
lady:- have u brought any identity proof with U
Me- yes maam
(i handed my driving license to them)
lady:- oh ur license has a smart card.
(alumnus joins in)
alumnus :- what is the need of a memory chip in ur license
me- sir to save information in it.. information about the license holder
alumnus: what kind of info
me :- data like address , name ,expiry date etc
alumnus :- that data can be printed on the card .. why do we need a separate embedded memory chip.. See the information u said is already printed in ur card.
( old prof arrives and takes a seat )
me :- well I guess the police who catches U swipes the card in the smart card reader to check the authenticity of the printed data,or maybe it saves his time by swiping the card rather than reading the printed data...
old prof :- well I will repeat the question .why do we need a memory chip on ur driving license when all the data is printed on ur licennse...take ur time.. think on it .. it won,t save his time to read the printed data.. the reason is something diffrent.. take ur time .. think and answer
me :- ( after thinking) since there r lots of information about lakhs of license holder .. we need to store the data in digital format

old prof :-okay whenever U get caught the police checks the data in the smart card to see if there is any previous default done by U.. if u r a serial offender it can be seen from the smart card. say for instance u were caught drunken by police .. that wud be updated in the memory chip and next time if ur caught U won,t be spared .. understood.

me :- Since a warehouse means a place where goods are kept , data warehousing must be a place to store lots of data.. which can be used for analysis later

me:- sir i worked for a BPO for some time

me:- sir but i don,t have an experience certificate for the same and last year in the month of april I was asked to resign from my job in patni due to lack of projects...
old prof :- so u were given a pink slip
me :- yes sir, But In stead of searching for other jobs i took it as an opportunity to crack CAT and get into IIMs .
Lady :- ( encourages me again) thats good and u managed to get IIM calls
me :- I found is unethical to do a job for few months and leave it since i wanted to do an MBA eventually
old prof :- so how do u manage ur finances.
me:- sir I stay with my family and i got enough support from them
old prof:- oh so u r from mumbai
old prof :- thats great then U seem well determined ..( looking at the lady ) he has decided he is gonna make it
lady:- which other IIM calls
me :- IIM indore
lady :- then u got good chance to make it from a good college ( smiles)
( i don,t recollect exaclty but those profs were praising me too much that I am determined ,no one can stop him and blah blah)
its then that i made a biggest mistake by saying
me :- sir I have already converted Symbiosis
